Privileged: "All About the Power Position"

If you still think that Privileged is a wholesome, non-confrontational, middle-of-the-road drama, you apparently missed Tuesday’s episode. It may have started out as a do-and-feel-good show but this week, it was on and the heat got turned up – way up.

It had only been a few minutes into the latest Privileged and there was porn, romance and a seductive plan by Sage to get the low down on the Smith family tree. (Special treat for old Will & Grace and Hidden Palms fans, Leslie Allen Jordan appeared as dive salon owner. We can’t help but smile every time we hear his sassy little voice.)

And, if you missed the sexual-stiff conversation between Charlie and Megan, all we can say is - hilarious. We can totally picture Megan being a little "stiff."

Porn and stiffness aside, the latest Sage drama has her working in cahoots with Lily, of all people. We should have seen it coming. It was only a matter of time before these two gossip girls/drama queens got together. Megan better watch her back!

Privileged: "All About What You Really, Really Want"

Sage once again amazes us. Last week, it was sisterly love advice. This week, it’s computer software design? But the focus quickly turns off Sage and onto Rose’s seemingly opposite situation -- failing freshman year.

Rose and Sage

Jumping onto more juicy gossip, we hear the full story of what happened with Megan and Lily. The shock alone of walking in on your sister with your boyfriend is enough to make us even want to run away. It was only the first few minutes, and we were successfully being annoyed by Megan’s sister. Whatever sympathy we felt last week totally went out the window.

But Charlie and Megan’s meeting on the beach brought up a good point. Perhaps Lily wasn’t purposely “stealing” Will. Maybe she didn’t know. Now we are back to feeling kind of sorry for the way Megan treats Lily. We’ve gone back and forth on this issue more times than a two -year-old on a teeter totter.

Privileged: "All About Honesty"

We got a big taste of the bitterness between Lily and Megan when they hash it out -- for practically all of Palm Beach to see -- as the charity ball from last week winds down. But what bums us out even more than seeing these two sisters fighting is the utter letdown in Laurel’s face when she learns that Megan lied to her about knowing Lily.

We already know that Megan feels bad for the way she left Lily behind to go off to college, even though Lily did steal her boyfriend – something we’re not sure we could forgive. But how much more difficult can Lily make the situation? Bringing drugs to the party practically gives Megan a reason to doubt Lily has any good-hearted intentions.

Privileged Premiere: Megan's Got Her Work Cut Out For Her!

Privileged is like Gilmore Girls meets The Devil Wears Prada, and we can’t wait to see more of how Megan makes her way through the manipulative lifestyles of the rich and famous.

We totally pity Megan getting fired and losing her apartment, but we're glad she ended up in Palm Beach – working at the tabloid was really not her thing. And when she meets her potential new boss, nonsensical cosmetic mongrel Laurel, they seem to immediately hit it off. Is it just us, or do you get the feeling Laurel sees a little of herself in Megan?

Megan arrives in Palm Beach

It’s hard to not like and want Megan to succeed. She is really sweet, bubbly and refreshing but we get the feeling there's more behind this sugar-coated exterior. Why doesn’t she speak with her dad or try to make up with her sister? She doesn’t even let them know she’s in town!

One thing’s for sure, Megan seems too naive to thwart everything Rose and Sage, or as we like to call them, the Paris and Nicky Hilton of CW’s Tuesday night, throw her way. These two heiresses Megan’s hired to tutor are much harder to get a read on. We want to like them because of everything they been through -- losing both parents that young would take its toll on anybody -- but Sage is making it especially hard.

More about the premiere after the jump, so keep reading!

Privileged Premieres Tonight -- Check It Out!

Privileged

Gossip Girl and 90210 have been getting all the press, but there's another rich-kids show coming to The CW this season -- remember Privileged? It debuts tonight, and The Mercury News says it's not necessarily what you expect. Yes, there are wealthy teens at the center of the show, but the paper says the "breezy new drama that is more 'Gilmore Girls' than 'Gossip Girl'" and praises its "sweet spirit," saying the show has "more heart and humanity than one might expect."

Privileged marks the return of Reba's Joanna Garcia to The CW screen, and Garcia tells Tampa Bay Online she's thrilled to be back. Producer-writer Rina Mimoun compares Garcia to the fast-talking mom on one of her previous shows, Gilmore Girls.

"We were stuck in the casting until JoAnna read for the role," she said during an interview at the Television Critics Association's fall preview tour in July. "The character has to have heart and a sense of irony ... a mixture of youthful inexperience, sensible maturity and be a fish out of water in Palm Beach society.... Tonally, we want it to also be like 'Clueless' and 'The Devil Wears Prada'."

Garcia's Megan meets her match in Sage, one of the rich girls she's hired to tutor. But even Sage isn't quite what she seems, actress Ashley Newbrough tells the Fresno Bee. "Sage is very different from the typical mean rich girl. She is very damaged. When the sisters lost their parents, Sage made the decision to be the more protective one and take more control of their lives."

Lauren Conrad To Guest Star on Privileged -- Are You Excited?

Lauren Conrad lives quite a charmed life on The Hills, so US Weekly's news that she'll be guest-starring on Privileged doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. She'll be playing herself, which we're torn about -- on one hand, it's nice to know exactly what we're getting into with LC on Privileged, but on the other, it might've been cool to see her stretch a little and try out some acting skills. Can you imagine her playing someone totally different -- a diva, a crybaby, a (gasp!) wallflower?

Lauren's episode will air October 7. What do you think? Will Lauren be a good addition to the show? You tell us -- vote in the poll and let us know what you think in the comments.

New CW Shows Podcast: From 90210 to Stylista

The girls of Surviving The Filthy RichYou asked, we delivered! Sarah, Mia and I discuss The CW's fall lineup on our new shows podcast. We're skeptical about Stylista's concept, excited about 90210's stars, and waiting for more information on Surviving the Filthy Rich (pictured at right).

We go on a few tangents about CW shows that have gone before us like Hidden Palms, Summerland, and Runaway. Oh, and there's some intense discussion of Saved By The Bell, grapples, and whether or not we're sick of rich people yet (are you?). Plus, we discuss what we're hoping to see on our favorite established CW hits this fall.

Listen to our new CW shows podcast and tell us what you think!

Casting News: Justin Hartley and Joanna Garcia Stick With The CW

Lots of CW news broke this morning, so let's kick off the week with a fix of casting scoop!

Justin HartleyFirst of all, Justin Hartley news! The Green Arrow will be making a move this fall -- Zap2it reports that Smallville's Justin Hartley is joining the cast of a new CW pilot, "Austin Golden Hour." The medical show differs from Grey's, House, and the rest because it's a real-time drama focusing on the 60 minutes immediately after an incident. While there's already a slew of medical dramas on TV, The CW has never offered anything in this genre before, so we have hopes that this'll be a little different. We would've liked to see a Green Arrow spinoff, but we'll take Justin in whatever form we can -- how about you?

In more CW casting news, Joanna Garcia (who played the dim but lovable Cheyenne on Reba) will join Michael Cassidy on "Filthy Rich Girls." Her new character will be a few rungs higher on the IQ ladder -- Garcia has nabbed the lead role, a Yale-educated gal who's tutoring a pair of spoiled Palm Beach siblings.

So what do you think of these casting developments? Are you excited to see Justin Hartley donning scrubs in the operating room, or will you miss him on Smallville? Reba fans, are you psyched for more Joanna Garcia? Let us know in the comments!

More Michael Cassidy on The CW!

Michael CassidyWe can't get enough of Michael Cassidy here at The CW Source, and it looks like The CW feels the same way. The two-time veteran of CW shows (first as creepy Cliff on Hidden Palms, then as the doomed Grant/Julian Luthor on Smallville) will be back again this fall on Filthy Rich Girls! He'll play the boyfriend of lead Joanna Garcia.

What do you think about this new development?

Filthy Rich Girls Are Coming to The CW

The success of Gossip Girl must have the network thinking that another cocktail of rich kids, parties, and excess could be a good bet -- The CW has greenlighted a new TV series based on a popular novel, "How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls," by Zoey Dean. The story? Yale grad Megan Smith is struggling to pay off her loans ends up tutoring a pair of obscenely rich Palm Beach siblings. If they get into Duke, she gets $75,000. Sounds nice, right? But of course, it's not that simple.

We don't know much more about the show yet, but it bodes well for it that Rina Mimoun will write and executive produce the pilot. She's got some credentials -- she's currently working on the quirky ABC hit Pushing Daisies, and she executive produced the cancelled-before-its-time WB drama Everwood (which we still miss!).

For more on the pickup, check out Variety.com's article.
