Smallville: Release the Beast!

Davis Bloom
With only three episodes remaining, Smallville has kicked it into high gear with Beast. Seriously, this was one of the best acted, most high-intensity episodes in a while, and completely worth a watch and a re-watch. We start with Chloe being romanced by Davis. After some hot and heavy kissing, Chloe looks up to see…? That’s right, a trail of blood. What a rookie mistake! FYI: If you’re trying to woo a woman AND you have a serial killer beast inside you, at least take the time to clean up the blood trails. Chloe follows the trail to a mutilated upper half of Clark. She screams and wakes up. Whew! Everything is okay. That day, Clark informs Chloe of his suspicions that Davis is still alive. Chloe makes an incredibly bold move by saying, “Clark, Davis is dead and the only thing keeping him alive in your mind is fear.” That’s a powerful lie to tell your best friend.

Jimmy asks Ollie for money, but Ollie’s no fool. He offers to set Jimmy up in a drug rehab program, but Jimmy denies his addiction and storms out of the Ace of Clubs. In a car, Chloe informs Dr. Emil Hamilton of Davis’ existence and asks him to search for a cure. Davis arrives when the doctor leaves and tells Chloe that it’s becoming harder to keep Doomsday in check, that he has to be with her at all times. In her basement, the two discuss leaving Smallville behind and Chloe agrees to do anything for Davis.

Clark talks to Ollie about Davis still being alive. Showing new power on screen, Ollie demands that Clark do what only the Man of Steel can do and kill Doomsday. Clark’s insane ethics once again get in the way and he vows to handle the situation. When Dr. Hamilton’s results come back as negative for a cure, he warns Chloe that Doomsday must be stopped now. She threatens him with Davis’ anger. Clark arrives and asks where to find Davis and Chloe sends him off to Alaska. For those counting, that’s two lies.

Ollie catches Jimmy stealing from Chloe’s place, but before he can do anything, the two are knocked out by Davis. They wake up chained in the basement of the Talon. Davis arrives and says that he would never hurt Chloe, but Jimmy provokes his wrath. Just before Doomsday kills Jimmy, he turns his fury on Ollie. Clark arrives and super-sprints Davis out of there. When Chloe arrives, Ollie blasts her for harboring a serial killer and asks when she became one of the bad guys. She asks where Clark is and Ollie says that Clark is going to finish things.

In the Fortress of Solitude, Clark fights with Davis a bit and tries to send him through a portal into the Phantom Zone, but Chloe arrives and stops him. She tells Clark that there is little difference between killing Davis and forcing him to live in the hell of the Phantom Zone. Meanwhile, Jimmy accepts an unspecified job working for Ollie. Clark uses the Chloe’s computers to search for her while Ollie preaches to him about the responsibilities of a hero and how he should have killed Doomsday when he had the chance.

Finally, Chloe gives Clark a call and says that Davis and she are okay. He asks where they are but she refuses to tell him. She says that everything she is doing is for Clark and hangs up. Davis and her drive away.

As we said, very strong performances by Tom Welling, Allison Mack, Sam Witwer and Justin Hartley. These are the kind of performances and story we want to see every week! What about you? Comment below.

Perfection!!!!! This was the ebst Smallville episode this season, let's face it. I enjoyed a lot, the Chlavis relationship is AWESOME. They should be together on season 9, Chloe and Davis are so made for each other.

I enjoyed Beast, but for the developments in the Chloe/Davis relationship myself.
The phone scene near the end, where everything was *all* about Clark, did not ring with Chloe's actions in the episode. (As Dr. Gaeta pointed out later in Injustice). Overall I loved it, with showing Davis, Chloe and Clark in my opinion the better actors of SV-to leand the story weight. As for the Chloe and Davis pairing, can I say hell yes! Davis is not Doomsday and provided that they both are separated he *is* the character I would like to see with Chloe for S9.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed an episode of Smallville so throughly. Everyone was really bringing their best. I can only hope that we get more excellent episodes like this in the future. Bravo Smallville!

gotta agree with you on this, drew. i loved the grey nature of this episode. ditto on the performances of tom, allison, sam and justin. they need to write-off jimmy, tho. sure glad erica was no where to be found.

i love looking at sam witwer. i'm also glad that he can act, if given a good script.

i like thie ep. allison was great asual/ if u moran kill chole off i can promiess that u will loses half ur fan an sv will go down as worst series ending on tv history u lose alot of fan. even tom n justin cnat get me to watch sv if chole dies or allison leaves if u keep ALLISON on as black canry or somebody else i watch if she go alot of ppl would stop watching sv. cause i sure as hell dont wan watch anohter lame excuse of of show abt lois n clark casue we no how they end up ? keep allison on sv all 22 ep. chole/allison rocks

Oh Guys... I have been with smallville since it started and saw the potiental for chloe and clark but we know that they might try to kill of chloe... But if they do they will lose alot of fans. Chloe is and always will be the ONLY LOIS LANE... the writers are trying to push her aside. But theY need to see that the chemistry btwn lois and clark is awkward. Chloe and clark are meant to be... Though I will be crying along with everyone else if and when they kill her off.

I thought this episode was good, but this was darker than usual.

Great performances from Tom, Allison, Aaron, Sam and Justin -- they really stepped their "A" game in this episode!

I like Jimmy/Oliver and it's about time that Aaron and Justin shared some screen time together (4 scenes).

I can't believe Chloe betrayed Clark like that. Karma will come back to her tenfold. It always do. And we all thought Lana was bad...

Favorite quotes:

"What, are they paying you, Shirley Temples?" (Oliver)

"Kick his ass, Clark." (Oliver)

"Aside from being snatched by a crazed serial killer? Yeah, I'm great." (Jimmy)

"When did you become one of the bad guys, huh?" (Oliver)

"You wanna throw down with me? Good luck." (Davis)

"Why can't my own Kryptonian brother let me have that?" (Davis)

"Either that, or she can't resist tall, dark, and Doomsday." (Oliver)

"Chloe, I'm gonna spend every second looking for you, I will find a way to save you!" (Clark)

"Clark, if there's one lesson I've learned from you, it's that choosing the greater good is never a sacrifice." (Chloe)

Excellent, ecellant episode. I think while Chloe's motives where supposed to have some ambiguity in the beginng, but the end it was crystal clear that Clark is her only priority and right now that means sacrificing her freedom for the greater good. That last conversation between Clark and Chloe was powerful. So much emotion. So much love between these two. Wonderful!

Beast was great! Allison,Tom and Sam were outstanding. I would love to see more episodes like this one. Can't wait to see the last two.

Any episode without Lois is an art form. Lois fake boobs, fake personality, all phoniness are enough to put Smallville into a ratings death spiral.
