Smallville: These Boots Were Made For Kicking

Lois -- or Stiletto?
Stiletto starts this episode of Smallville with a frustrated Lois Lane trying to gain access into an exclusive event. While Lois discusses what it must be like to be a superhero, Chloe, who just left Lois' side, is mugged for her keys. On command, Lois performs some power moves and knocks down both attackers. One would-be mugger takes off in Chloe's car with her laptop in the back; the other mugger is pressed to the ground by Metropolis' newest hero: Stiletto (Lois with backlight). Clark attempts to get information from Lois about Stiletto, hoping to recover the laptop which contains a great deal of information on himself and the members of the Justice League, but she decides to keep the heroine's whereabouts a secret.

Next, we see an almost-forgotten Jimmy Olsen bartending at the Ace of Clubs for the same goons who jumped Chloe and Lois. Bruno Mannheim, the mugger who got away, decides his current crime lord is too soft, so he shoots him and usurps the throne. Meanwhile, Lois makes a patent leather costume (who knew she could sew?) and contacts Jimmy to take action photos of her for her breaking news article covering the mysterious Stiletto.

In a discussion of love, Chloe attempts to convince Clark that finding Stiletto might not be a bad idea for him because he could finally have a companion that would understand him. The next scene has Clark and Lois sitting across from each other at the Daily Planet and both make glances to their respective bags which contain their "costume". When a crime report comes across the police scanner, the two of them both take off. Stiletto arrives at the scene (oddly, before the police) after the Red-Blue Blur has already caught the thief and wrapped him in a drainage pipe. Hilarity ensues as Clark arrives and Lois tries to hide behind her mask, saying, "Well, I should get back to my cave." (yet another Batman reference?...hmmm). While Lois tells Clark who the muggers worked for, Jimmy is getting beat down for having a camera full of pictures of Stiletto and not telling Mannheim who she is.

Chloe is attacked in her house by one of Mannheim's thugs, but before her throat is slit, her pet, Doomsday, saves her by destroying the attacker. As Chloe nurses her wounds, Lois arrives and admits to her mistake of creating a superhero for a news story. We think Chloe is about to tell Lois of her serial killing monster pet in the basement, but she stops.

Clark arrives at the Ace of Clubs and overhears talk of the criminals hacking into Chloe's computer where they've just found the information about the Justice League. He attempts to blur into the room, but the money-printing operation has lined the bill ink with kryptonite and Clark is dropped like a bad habit alongside a crumpled Jimmy Olsen. Lois, who is looking for Jimmy to destroy the photos of Stiletto, finds her two friends about to be killed by Mannheim. She jumps through the skylight, delivering knock-out kicks on her way down. Mannheim pulls a gun and fires a shot at Lois/Stiletto, but somehow a power-crippled Clark is able to super-dive in front of the shot and takes the bullet. Romantic? Yes. Believable? This is a little hard to accept when we know how weak -- and vulnerable! -- Clark is in the presence of kryptonite.

Chloe hauls a couple of trash bags full of discarded criminal parts out to the Dumpster (you don't want Doomsday's chew toys stinking up your basement) and breaks down at the sight of blood on her hands. In the Daily Planet, Lois apologizes/thanks Clark, in Lois style, for putting Clark in danger and then having to save her. The two banter back and forth and after Lois realizes the dangers of being a superhero, Clark says, "I didn't know there was any room for introspection underneath that costume."

In our opinion, the best scene of the episode occurs between Chloe and Clark as he brings her the recovered laptop. Clark notices that Chloe has cooked a feast and wonders if she is expecting company. She says that cooking is her coping mechanism for everything she has been through, but Clark doesn't buy it and asks if she is okay. Chloe attempts to act tough, but Clark says he is there for her. With the last of her emotional strength, she tells Clark she just needs some space, "not a super save". As he leaves, a tear works its way down her cheek.

At the end, the Red-Blue Blur calls Lois and she says she does not currently want his story but wants him to know that if he ever needs someone with whom to talk, she is only a phone call away. From a rooftop, Clark, with a voice-changer on his cell phone, tells Lois she is a great reporter and that when he is ready to go public, she will be the first to know his story.

Not bad for building the Clois relationship and adding even more depth to a troubled Chloe, right? Tell us your thoughts below!

wow to all this most likely middle aged, house mother, comic book driven fans above me, most likely.....the episode was cool, they were trying something different with this one, and durance does a great job of bringing louis lane to life on this show. so deal with it, yeaaaaa

Selling Durance Lois as a sex kitten? Protruding fake cleavage, check. Spike heels, check. One size too small to show off said fake boobage, check. Retarded, double digits IQ dieplay, check. Viewers response: Laughing all the way to the TV button to change channel to another show, check.

ditto the sentiments for me, bob and "fan of the show no more". i've more or less checked out from this show myself. really a shame what they've done this season. what a lack of creativity and imagination. i guess no acting lessons will save durance.

This episode was stupid beyond belief. It deserved he low ratings it received. Lois is just a joke

Wow. Can't wait for the finale.

Durance makes Lois look and act like a retard. Her sexed up image is just awful and low class. Nobody who has ever liked Lois as a character finds anything remotely amusing about the current incantation of Durance's Lois. She has made Lois to be pathetic idiot. Her outfit and high heels weren't sexy,it was silly.

Lois and Clark need to be together already I mean come on. I deffinalty hope I will squee in the season finale and that weren't lieing to me about it.
