America's Next Top Model: Cycle 11 Has Arrived!

Tyra Banks

After watching last night's premiere of America's Next Top Model we can be sure of one thing: if you wanna be on top, you gotta be over the top. The diversity of the girls who finally made it into the house would have been interesting if only this crop weren't so catty. But we're getting ahead of ourselves.

Before the final cuts to make it to the final 14, the girls are bussed to a "secret location" and met by futuristic-looking Jay Manuel and Ms. Jay Alexander. We're not exactly sure what happened to Jay Manuel's hair during this portion of the show - it looked like he borrowed one of Tyra's weaves, put it in the spin cycle and put it back on his head. The Jays welcome the girls, open the door to the Top Model Institute of Technology and let the shrieking begin!

Inside, the girls were given catsuits and had their bodies scanned for purposes unknown. We meet contestants like Hannah, from small-town Alaska and Sheena, the Asian-American with swagger who tells America we're about to get Sheena-fied. We can't wait; we'll probably be wearing door-knocker earrings and tube tops by next week. There's Elina from Seattle, the vegan activist with the intimidating eyes. Kacey, the model who says she isn't ghetto because her name isn't "Le Shaquita La Kenisha". Not sure how that works out exactly, but she can obviously thank her parents. After the body scanning process, the girls have their catwalks recorded. As per usual, some are magic and some are tragic.

Finally the girls are taken to a room in which the Tyrabot is revealed. Not only does she look like a robot, she speaks like one. After giving her speech, Tyrabot and Alpha Jay and Beta Jay are beamed up "fiercely" to the panel room in which all of the girls get a one-on-one judging. In true ANTM fashion, this is where the crazy comes out. Hannah from Alaska reenacts the time she got chased by a moose with Tyra playing the part of the moose. Brittney "ShaRaun" thinks she has already won the competition yet doesn't know the names of any designers. Analeigh was once sold to a Saudi Arabian man to be his wife but luckily got out of it. Clark "with no 'e'" makes it known that she is a manipulative bitch and will stomp anyone in the way of her making it to the top. Non-ghetto Kacey dropped her white friends because they don't understand her hair... no wait, she just vibes more with black girls. Marjorie is gorgeous and has the Agyness Deyn look going for her, but she is so nervous it makes us uncomfortable. Joslyn has tried out for ANTM 30 times, and now her hard work has paid off.

And then there's Isis. Isis was one of the girls in the background of Cycle 10's homeless shoot, and she blew Tyra away. Isis was also born a male, and unfortunately, some of the other girls in the house are ignorant and badger her with questions. We love Sheena -- she came in and stuck up for Isis, saying it's all about the spirit and the drive. Three snaps up in "z" formation for Sheena.

When it's Elina's turn to speak with the panel, she doesn't hesitate to say she wouldn't have been able to pose during the disgusting meat photo shoot they did in Cycle 11 due to her veganism and animal activism. The judges pry about her sexuality - which is open to loving both men and women. When it's brought up outside of the panel and some of the other girls find out, non-ghetto Kacey immediately labels her as weird. Big shocker. We were all for supporting Elina's sexuality, but when she remarks that she likes to "turn girls to (her) side" as a sport, it was a bit of a turnoff. Statements like that give ignorant people an open platform to go on a witch hunt.

The first cut is made and, no surprise here, there are lots of tears.

Time for the first photo shoot! The girls have five minutes to change into skin-tight catsuits and do their makeup. Some were able to smile with their eyes, while others couldn't find the light or a normal pose to save their lives.

Finally, the contestants are whittled down to the final 14. Non-ghetto Kacey didn't make the cut, and we aren't too broken up about it. Your contestants are:

Joslyn, Lauren Brie, Analeigh, McKey, Brittany, Nikeysha, Samantha, Sheena, Clark, Elina, Hannah, Isis, ShaRaun and Marjorie.

We've got another hour to cover; are you ready for it? Good.

The girls get back to the house and immediately bombard Isis with questions about her transition. Get with the program ladies - it's 2008. ShaRaun says, "America's Next Top Model isn't going to be a drag queen." Someone needs a lesson in definitions. McKey actually takes the time to get to know Isis, while Clark and Hannah almost refuse to try to accept the situation. Clark even goes as far as saying, "Isis has no place in this competition." We can't wait for the photo shoots to begin so Isis can prove her wrong.

Meanwhile, Marjorie is a bit of a social leper. She spends most of her time talking about how different she is from the other girls and won't answer questions about herself. Her hands flail as she speaks; her voice rushes and giggles. We hope this won't last too long; she has great potential as a model when her mouth is closed.

The following day, the girls are taken to The Magic Castle where they basically speed interview with Nigel, Paulina and the two Jays. ShaRaun introduces herself as America's Next Top Model. McKey says she'll do some serious bodily harm to a photographer who suggests sexual favors. Nigel is impressed with Isis's ability to really know what she's doing and follow the light.

Next up, the photo shoot! The theme of the week is "Voting is Sexy". The photos tackled issues like immigration, privacy, environment, military, bureaucracy, nuclear weapons, foreign policy, unemployment, transportation, healthcare, economy, education, homeland security and cloning. During Isis's turn during the "privacy" shot, some of the other girls shout mean things to her through the screen. It made us a bit ill, but we couldn't wait to see how the photos turned out.

At panel the following day, we couldn't help but notice how often Paulina disagrees with comments the other judges made - and we love her for it! Isis's picture turns out beautifully and McKey is praised for her boxing pose. It's Marjorie's photo which is singled out for being the best of the bunch. While it was a great picture, we don't believe it was the standout of the group. Clark's picture stinks - which made us laugh - and ShaRaun's seems to go against the theme.

ShaRaunIn the end, we said goodbye to ShaRaun, and we aren't shocked or disappointed. What did you think of the premiere? How about the new crop of girls? Do you have any favorites, or is there anyone you can't stand? Let us know in the comments!
