Smallville Gets MORE New Villains, Plus News About Ollie And Chloe
Smallville is really pulling out all the stops this season when it comes to Big Bads. We already know that Clark and Co. will be dealing with a devious corporate head (Tess Mercer) and a villain who can kill Superman (Doomsday). Now we've learned that the show is bringing in another heavy hitter to challenge Kal El.
TVGuide reports that Clark will meet the alien princess/powerhouse Maxima in season 8. Those of you who are familiar with the comics know Maxima is an extraterrestrial hottie who's looking for love -- or at least a suitable mate who can father superpowered children. Kal El fits the bill, but Clark isn't interested, because he's already involved with an Earth sweetie. Maxima doesn't take rejection well, and destruction ensues.
In other news, we ran across a couple of great interviews with Allison Mack and Justin Hartley. There are some mild spoilers, so we'll post the rest after the break. Don't click if you don't want to know!
Allison tells Comic Book Resources that we'll also see another powerful woman from the comics -- Bette San Souci, otherwise known as Plastique, an explosive villain. She comes into Chloe's life when Ms. Sullivan takes over Lana's Isis foundation, using her computer skills, healing powers and general kick-assedness to aid the meteor-afflicted. This mission will take her out of her realm of faithful sidekick and make Chloe more of a force in her own right, Allison says.
"I think Chloe is really taking on the whole Mother Teresa kind of thing that's been looming around since she started her superpower of healing a couple of season ago,” Mack said. “She's got such a huge heart and she is recognizing that there are more people that need her other than Clark Kent. [She is] sort of starting to cut the apron strings and let Clark venture into his own sort of thing cause she is really seeing how many people need her help and Bette is just the first of I think many.”
Allison also tells CBR how much she enjoys playing a character whose fate isn't already known to countless comics fans: "My part as this character has not been anything secure,” Mack explained, “so we've really been able to work in quite an equal partnership -- the writers, myself and the fans -- in shaping who this character is going to be and shaping the direction she is going to go. So I really like the fact that everything is new and that we're really molding a brand new character together.”
Justin Hartley, on the other hand, is dipping into more DC lore as he returns as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. Justin tells CBR that Smallville will dip into the Green Arrow origin story, showing Ollie alone on an island, developing his archery skills to survive.
Justin also says we'll be seeing another side of Ollie when he starts questioning whether the Green Arrow gig is really worth it. "Oliver gets broken down a little bit [this season]. He starts looking at all the things he sacrificed to do what he does and he starts to wonder whether or not it was worth it, which is kind of cool.”
What do you think of it all? Are you excited about Maxima? Are you looking forward to Chloe's new role? Are you intrigued by a second-guessing Ollie? Talk about it in the comments!

It's good to see Allison finally get a plotline of her own for a change(something she hasn't got the past few seasons). For the past 2 years it's seems all Chloe does is sit on her chair and think for Clark. I have no clue why they put her at the DP when she didn't doing anything there resembling journalism other then 2 or 3 episodes. Hopefully the writers can make her new storyline interesting like it was the first few seasons. As for "lightswitching" I honestly don't see it that way, Chloe basically hunted meteor freaks since day one and now she is protecting them, it's sort of an ironic twist that happens to alot of the characters on the show.

Thanks for the interview.
I love Chloe and I'm really glad that AM's back for another year but I'm not sure about what TPTB are doing with this character. She's always been a great journalist and always wanted to work in the DP but now that they want to bring EDLois and Clark to the DP, it's like she's not interested anymore. How convenient! If the Lois they created can't afford to be compare to Chloe, then she's not worth becoming the great iconic Lois Lane that I like. Then maybe, they should ask themselves about it instead of lightswitching a great character to make another look better.
